The main point of this vacation was to spend Valentine’s in Miami.
We drove from Orlando to Miami on Sunday morning, which gave us a chance to see a bit of the state. We took the Florida Turnpike until it met I95 just south of Port St Lucie, then it hugs the coast through West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, and into Miami.
We stayed at the Hilton downtown Miami, and the view was better than what I had hoped for.

And a few nightime shots for the lights of the city too.

It had rained much of the drive down, and was clearing a bit, but was supposed to be sunny on Valentine’s Day.

Monday, Valentine’s Day, just before sunrise looked like this.
We headed south to Calle Ocho / Little Havana.

Then to the mouth of the Miami river to catch the riverwalk.

Then we headed to get some lunch at the Brickell city center, a mall pretty equivalent to the Beverly Center here in LA.

Then we headed to the waterfront….

…where we got on a giant ferris wheel.

Again, exhausted from the walking, we headed back to the hotel to relax for a few hours before heading to our dinner at Osteria del Teatro in South Beach.

Tuesday was a travel day. We woke up to this:

….then after some coffee and a stop at Barnes and Noble, headed to the airport for our flight home. This is a shot of Miami from the plane.

This adds Florida to my list of states visited, which now looks like this:
