Sept 18, Saturday
Shell’s birthday.

While walking back to the hotel the night before, I’d
noticed an Intelligentsia, a coffee place I know well from here and used to
frequent back before coffee places popped up all over. So, we went there for
coffee. It was very disappointing. The ones in LA I’d been to were top quality.
The cappuccino I got from this one? Hardly qualifies as a cappuccino.
Then we headed over to the Donut Vault, a place I found on
Instagram before we had even left for the trip. I was again slightly
disappointed. I was told these were huge, top-quality donuts. While they were
tasty, and had some unique flavors, they weren’t much different than I get from
any donut shop around here.
From there, we headed to millennium park and the bean to get
some photos.

After that we decided to head north to the Chicago History Museum
AND get a genuine Chicago Dog. So we took the L up to Old Town and got a hot
dog, served by a guy with an ankle bracelet…..

and then headed east on North
Street to the Museum.

Talked to the guy at the Museum, who said I should bring
him a Dodger dog from LA. I told him that was funny because I was here to get a
Chicago dog.
The Museum was fantastic and very educational about
Chicago’s history. By now, both Shell and my feet were tired of walking around.
We took the L back to the hotel to relax for a few hours, but then headed up
around sunset to the Hancock Building and the 360 Chicago observation deck on
the 94th floor.
Caught the sunset and some night lights pics…

with
about 1000 other people up there, before heading back in a massive line to get
down. We didn’t think we had time to get back to the hotel in time to change
for dinner, so we just headed straight over to Prime + Provisions for Shell’s
birthday dinner at 9p.

Food was exceptional, and by the time we got back, we
were exhausted. Shell had 33,000 steps for the day, and we zonked out.
