At our church, we have a ministry called drive thru prayer. The church has a U-shaped driveway off a major street that is ideal for people to pull in and then get out quicky. So on Mondays between 5-6p, we stand on the sidewalk and hold up signs offering people a chance to come in and get prayer. I love this because it’s an opportunity to minister to people outside our church. People pull in with all kinds of issues. Usually they are already Christians, but not always. Those chances to share the gospel with the unbeliever are the opportunities I love. We start up again just after daylight savings time, so…. next Monday.
When I sent out the text message to the crew a month ago, I have to admit I was not particularly excited about starting up again. I love the ministry, but like anything you commit to do, once the commitment is there, it is an obligation too, and obligations can be wearing. So yeah…. not super excited about starting the long slog again. But just this last week I began to get excited again. That’s a welcome change for me. I really do love doing this, and I’m glad to be actually be looking forward to it.
We’ll be out there for around 30 Mondays. We have, on average, 3-4 cars come in per day. That means we’ll have the opportunity to pray with from 90-120 people over the course of the next 7 months. If you look for ways to share the gospel, that’s not bad. Granting, some of those are returns, and many are already Christians, but still, there will likely be some 15-20 people out of that group that aren’t, and those are the people we want to see come in.
So, we start next Monday and I’m once again excited about the opportunities. Maybe it had something to do with seeing the Jesus Revolution movie, I don’t know. But whatever it is, thank you Lord for the chance to get out there.
