A big part of the reason I’m reading, particularly classic literature, is the intention to learn more about life. Proverbs says to get wisdom and understanding. Reading literature that has managed to withstand the test of time is helpful. Of course, not everything written by man is worth all that much, but it’s possible to learn even from things that aren’t quite right.
Every once in a while, I read things that confront me. They probe a little deeper into my heart to show me that perhaps my thinking hasn’t been so great. I have learned things from books I’ve read, podcasts I’ve listened to, or blogs I’ve read. At times I’m confronted with attitudes that I’ve held. They get exposed as being more harmful than I had wanted to accept.
Of course, I can’t possibly go back and undo things, I can only hope to learn from my mistakes and move on.
