These are all true by the way…. 

When I was but a young man, I moved up to Monrovia, CA to lead a youth group at a small Baptist church. While there a 12 year-old kid started coming that was deaf. He was always accompanied by his best friend, who knew sign language and would translate what was being said. 

One day, I, being a guy who likes to reach out and communicate with people, decided I would try to learn some basic signs and so approached the deaf kid’s friend. I thought it would be best to start with some basic phrases, so I asked the friend: How do I say hello in sign language? 

He looks at me like I’m an idiot…. and waves. 

Oh… uh, yeah, didn’t think of that.
