Continuing the Music I Love: the 70’s series, here are some songs from 1974. 

Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me– Elton John  
This was another of those songs from the Elton John piano book that my sister had, that I used to play on the piano. I’ve forgotten it all at this point, but I still love the song. Then George Michael did a version of it in 1991 with Elton John. But it was already a classic in my book. 

You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet–  BTO   
Bachman Turner Overdrive wrote two lasting classics: Takin’ Care of Business in ‘73, which I already listed, and You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet…. in which he stammers the line- You ain’t seen n-n-n-nothing yet…. I dunno, but this is a fun song too. 

Sweet Home Alabama– Lynyrd Skynyrd  
I mean come on… how can this song be left off a list of great 70’s songs?! Maybe THE most recognized opening notes of all time and just a good-time song all around. 

Waterloo– ABBA 
ABBA was one of those bands that I wasn’t, as a ‘rock n roll dude’ really supposed to like. But hey, good music is good music, and I don’t mind admitting it now, so I’m including this on the list as my third favorite ABBA song. 

Cat’s In The Cradle– Harry Chapin 
Classic tearjerker song about how our kids grow up to imitate us, even the negative. 

Nothing from Nothing– Billy Preston 
Another funk classic. 

There were a lot of songs from this year that I really loved…. at the time, not as much anymore. But some of those that I dug at the time were: Rikki Don’t Lose That Number– Steely Dan, The Night Chicago Died– Paper lace, Billy Don’t Be a Hero– Bo Donaldson, Hooked on a Feeling– Blue Swede.  

Good songs, but I don’t love them as much now. Plus I can’t include EVERYthing on the list, right?
