Music I Love: 1979

Continuing the Music I Love: the 70’s series, here are some songs from 1979.

What A Fool Believes– Doobie Brothers
Michael McDonald joined the Doobie Brothers in ‘75 and brought a more soulful sound to the band. This song has always been one that I loved.

Take the Long Way Home– Supertramp
Supertramp had a string of hits back around this time, but this one is probably my favorite. Close behind is the Logical Song.

Message in a Bottle– The Police
Has a hybrid beat that is faster, but somehow utilizes a reggae type feel. Whatever it is, it was a hit for a good reason.

Londing Calling– The Clash
This is a super catchy song, but the lyrics have stuck with me for long time. For all the talk of global warming, or just ‘climate change’ since the mid 90’s, when I was in school, the big threat was that a new ice age was coming. That was immortalized in this song with the lyrics: “The ice age is coming, the sun’s zoomin’ in, meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin….”

The Clash captured the angst produced by constant messages of doom.
