Time after Time– Cyndi Lauper
This one quickly became a kind of standard… for a good reason. It’s a great song.
Every Breath You Take– the Police
For some reason, lots of people thought this would be a great wedding song. I’m assuming they never really listened to the words. But it’s still a really catchy song that sticks with you.
Sunday, Bloody Sunday– U2
My intro into U2. It was probably love at first hear. They of course went on to become one of the biggest bands in rock history. This one has an iconic guitar intro that I loved and the song has stuck with me.
Pink Houses– John Mellencamp
My favorite of Mellencamp’s songs, and I swear I’m not lying…. I’ll still get a little choked up when I hear this one.
Owner of a Lonely Heart– Yes
Yes was a progressive rock band from the 70’s, which meant they considered it their mission to never play the same thing twice in a song. OK, that’s only partly true. Mostly, I found them too difficult to listen to, but they did have one song, Roundabout, that I liked. Then along comes the 80’s and they popped out this little beauty. The video is annoying as all get-out because they stop the music in the middle to do something incomprehensible before they continue on. But the song itself is fantastic. One of the weirdest guitar solos you’ll ever hear though…
Faithfully– Journey
THE classic arena rock power ballad, but I swear it still brings chills to me whenever I hear it. No WAY this gets left off the list.
Talking in Your Sleep– The Romantics
Perhaps another lesser known song, but I love this one.
Cuts Like a Knife– Bryan Adams
This was the first song I had ever heard of Bryan Adams and while I love the song, the video sealed it for me. I had a crush on the girl in the video, who in the end, dives into an empty pool, then comes out wet. Senseless, but who cares, she was really cute.
