Interest Updates

Let’s see. So my interests for the last few days are:

Continuing to document the roots and basic philosophy of Critical Justice Theories, particularly Critical Race Theory for my son. I have listened to…. well probably along the lines of 50-75 hours or so over the last year of material on Critical Theory. I made a lot of notes through that time, and at this time I’m more or less just trying to weed through and condense. I’ve tried my best to understand where those who originated the theory are coming from, what they get right, and where I think it goes wrong as a response. I realize that there is a really simple goal stated- reducing racism, that frankly NO ONE ought to be against. But as so often happens, the devil is in the details and the method to achieve the aforementioned goal is anywhere on the spectrum from being suspect, all the way to diabolical.

I resent being told that to disagree with this specific response to the problem of racism automatically means that I must be a supporter of racism itself. But I do NOT want to lower myself to the level of name calling, so I’m going to do my best to point out what proponents of the theory themselves say, why they say it, what they hope to achieve, and why I think they’re destined to fail.

Trying to understand what is called Modern Monetary Theory

Modern monetary theory is a favorite among the progressive left right now, because it justifies ignoring debt (at least to a point) and increased government spending. I have a gut level reaction to just say no. But as I listen to the rationale behind it, I’m not sure I’m right about that. They may in fact have a decent argument for it. I’ll have to wait to pass judgment on it until I can accurately restate what the case though.

Continued reading in my Scientific Papers- this time finishing up Edward Jenner’s paper on Vaccinating against Smallpox. This one is fascinating historically about how Jenner…. I’ll say formalized this discovery, because truth be told, the dairy farmers in his area of England had already figured out, through experience, that those who had the cowpox would not get the much more dangerous smallpox.

The current debate over the efficacy of Ivermectin in preventing and treating Covid.

Piggybacking on the experience of Jenner with cowpox is the discussion over Ivermectin’s efficacy in treating Covid. Those advocating for it are convinced by the efficacy in its clinical application as both treatment and preventive in Peru, Mexico, regions of India, as well as others.

Those advocating against argue that no rigorous testing has been done.

Those advocating for it are wondering if there are perverse financial incentives avoiding such testing, which no one in position to do so seems willing to do. Perhaps because there is no money to be made on Ivermectin, a readily available, and by now out of patent drug.

While it is true that a certain level of lab verification has not been done on the drug with respect to efficacy towards Covid, no such testing was done by Jenner either. Yet that didn’t stop the treatment from being recognized as effective.

Anyway, that’s what’s going on in my head right now.
