Sept 19, Sunday
Travel day back home.
We got up and went in search of breakfast.

Blue Bottle
Coffee, which I was familiar with from time spent in SF, and another donut
place- Firecakes, that turned out to be really good.

We had made reservations
for a competing observation deck: SkyDeck, on the 103rd floor of the
Willis (old Sears) tower, but since that was at 10, and we had to check out, we
went back to the hotel, cleaned up, and checked out. Then we headed over to the
tower and got some more daytime pics of the surrounding area from way up.

Last thing on the list was to try some Chicago deep-dish
pizza, so we went to Giordano’s right around the corner and relaxed there for a
couple of hours.

Then we headed back to Grant Park to catch a couple of the things
we hadn’t seen before: The Crown Fountain- two huge LED blocks with face videos
on them and an inch deep water area that people can cool down in, and the
Buckingham fountain.

Now, being thoroughly wiped out from the days of walking,
we went back to the hotel and just sat in the lobby until about 3, when we got
our luggage, the car, and headed back to the airport.
The flight wasn’t until 7:35p but it got delayed and we
didn’t get off the ground until about 9:20.
Got back to LA about 11:30 or so, home by 12:30a and that
was that.

Overall, I got to see all the states in the northern
contiguous states, at least west of the great lakes, that I hadn’t seen yet. We
had a great time, everything went well, no problems. And I was grateful that
things worked out as well as they did.
