2024 New England: Saturday Oct 19

Watched the sunrise again from the hotel bed,

then went out to breakfast at The Well, which looked to be a non-profit, Christian-owned coffee shop. Then took a metro ride across part of the harbor to LoPresti park, where we could get a view of the Boston skyline.

Then we came back across the river to the downtown area and headed through the financial district to the place where the Boston Tea Party would have taken place…. Kind of. The ‘edge’ of the Boston harbor has expanded radically since the 1700s. Hills were leveled and the dirt dumped into the harbor to expand the size of the land. So I don’t think the exact area where the Tea Party took place is even there anymore… or it would be inland a bit. But there is a replica ship, and a tour you can take where participants throw boxes into the harbor in a roleplay, but that isn’t my thing, so I just took a picture of the ship and then left.

Went to the Hub Hall, right next door to the hotel, for lunch, where I got a burger from Sauce Burger and a Guinness from Now Pouring Wine Bar and then sampled a cannoli from Mike’s Pastry, another food that was on the must-eat list for Boston.

Then headed south of the city to the JFK Presidential Library. Fortunately for us, we didn’t have to pay a thing for this since we had bought the “friends of the library” membership when we visited the Reagan library in the summer.

After the tour, we met a Canadian girl from Vancouver, and a couple from Carlsbad, CA waiting for the bus back to the metro station.

After a brief respite back at the hotel, we headed out

towards the Prudential building to see the View Boston observation deck on floor 52. Made the reservations just before sunset, so we could catch that….

but right after sunset, we needed to beat it outta there to catch our dinner reservations at the Bostonia Public House.

This place was on the list as a great traditional option, but holy smokes was it loud. It felt like I needed to scream just to make myself heard and that isn’t something I enjoy doing at this stage in my life.

Food was ok, but I was happy to get out of there.

Exhausted yet again from all the walking, we headed back to the hotel and crashed out.
