Rome 2023: Day 3

Sat Nov 25
For breakfast we walked over across the river to the Sciascia Caffe 1919.

It was COLD and windy this morning. Down around 3-4° C. (mid to high 30’s F.)

Then we went to the Castel Sant’Angelo.

This is, as you may have guessed, a castle structure. But it started off has Hadrian’s tomb, built in 134-139 AD. It served as several different things, including a fortress from the 1300’s. Climbing to the top affords a fantastic 360° view over the city.

We went to Emma pizzeria for lunch,

then back to the hotel to back an overnight bag, and then to the train station to grab a ride an hour north to Anguillara Sabazia, the town where our friend Lucia lives.

We spent the evening there visiting with her and her fiancé, Andrea. Her home is right off of Lake Bracciano.

We went into the town of Anguillara for a pre-dinner snack…

walked around the town of Bracciano at the foot of this castle… while freezing…

Had a great time at dinner and afterwards just sitting at home and having a liquore. I think I got to bed around 1a.

And saw this fridge magnet too…
