Tue Nov 28
My wife, youngest son and I went to breakfast at Giolitti, located only about 150 yards from the hotel door.
Then we met up with the rest of the group and headed over to the Colosseum, Palatine hill and Forum for a group tour in English. Normally, when I’m in Italy I, as a point of pride, like to consider that I can get myself around without needing help in English. But we were with a 7 person group, none of which spoke Italian other than me, and it the information about these places was well-beyond what I could explain. So, this was one of the two English tours I signed us up for.

twice while at the colosseum, it started dumpin’ buckets of rain, but we did come prepared with umbrellas, and it only lasted a few minutes, so not too bad.

The tour included the Palatine hill.

and the old forum, which has been excavated after being buried under layers of silt from the constant flooding by the Tevere river.

After lunch we went to the Mamertine Prison, where the apostles Paul and Peter were held before being executed.

Then we all walked up to the Trevi fountain.

We had plans to walk to the Spanish steps too, but everyone else was exhausted, so we all went back to our respective hotels and rested up for dinner.
We had plans for dinner at one place, but when we got there, it was a lot different than what we had expected, so we left and went to a different place, SignorVino, that was actually pretty good. We had to sit outside on a chilly night, but other than that, the food was great.
