I read a tweet today, and some follow-ups, that I found really interesting.
A guy had written that women are not sexually aroused by most male body builders. Then a woman wrote a response that said “Women are, in general, not sexually aroused by men’s bodies. They’re attracted to certain body types, but it’s fairly uncommon for a woman to be sexually aroused at the sight of a man’s body.”
There were lots of responses, some pushing back on this. For example, this one that wrote:
“I’ve never met a woman who doesn’t like muscular arms.”
To which the woman responded, “You didn’t understand my post. Women are attracted to handsome men with nice bodies. They are not instantly sexually aroused upon seeing such a body without any further context like straight men are about women’s bodies.”
Then someone else, a guy… wrote, “Just say it: female arousal is based on being desired.”
Even making allowance for outliers, something about this struck me as probably true, and I’ve never really heard it said in such terms. But I’m intrigued to know what others think. OK, that’s it.
